Charlotte Carey Photography bio picture

Welcome to my Blog!

Thank you very much for coming to visit us here at the blog for Charlotte Carey Photography!

My name is Maria Carey and I will be joined here on a regular basis by my assistants, Sophie and Zachary, my crazy and adorable golden retrievers. I look forward to sharing images of our adventures with beautiful pets and children here on Nantucket and in the Boston area.

Although I will of course be featuring the fun and energy I see through my lenses, Sophie and Zach will also be sharing with all of you what makes their lives so happy here on our little sandbar.

Please feel free to comment and drop a line to us anytime. We look forward to meeting you!

Maria

Beach style {Nantucket pet photography}

This photo makes me dream of navy Sperry sneakers, white linen pants, grosgrain ribbons on straw hats and those beautiful red and white striped cabanas with the little flags on top…

This is Bruiser, one of my first pet clients, working the boardwalk at Jetties Beach, Nantucket.

Isn’t he fabulous?

Snow en route {Nantucket dog photographer}

There is snow on the way (again) to the mid Atlantic and Northeast. Out here on Nantucket we are preparing ourselves for some pretty high wind and a mix of the white stuff, rain and ice. Yuck.

Otis here is reminding me of what it feels like to lay in the sand and play in the surf…

Soon enough we will get to wipe sand off our noses again…

Spring 2010 {Nantucket Pet Photography}

We are getting things ready for the 2010 season and there will be some surprises in store for  lucky clients.

There will be some amazing new specialty products and a new specialized pet package, as well as distinctive family and children’s photography packages.

We look forward to meeting some great pets and their people this upcoming season and are excited to provide them with unique and personalized service.

Spring is just around the corner…thank goodness :)

Incidentally, this is Hazel the sweetest Cavapoo,  one of our wonderful and photogenic clients from 2009. She makes regular visits to us here and is one of our biggest fans!

Quiet time {Nantucket Pet Photography}

It is so deliciously quiet around here these days. The type of quiet that is refreshing, restorative and welcomed.

I have been doing a lot of reading about photography, creativity, pushing boundaries.

I decided to push through my comfort zone this morning and shoot at a higher ISO, completely throwing the “but it will be noisy” cautionary statement out of my head.

Not as noisy as I thought. A little distracting, but not something that would make me click and drag the photo into the bucket.

I enjoyed shooting a bit differently than usual…I know, I know, big deal..so I  bumped the ISO…but to me, the scientist turned photography afficionado, it is a big deal to step outside that little comfort zone. It felt good to be naughty…to go against the grain (no pun intended).

When push comes to shove though, I believe I will always take quiet over noise, no matter how exciting or interesting it may be for a short while :)

Chance and Midnite {Boston Pet Photography}

I was recently lucky enough to have the opportunity to meet and photograph a beautiful family in Boston. Two of the family members are these fun-loving and hysterical guys, Midnite (can you guess which one he is?) and Chance.

Both of them are very handsome and well mannerred boys and clearly take their jobs of caring for this family very seriously.

I think you all would agree that they are pretty special and very good looking fellas.

Thank you guys for such a wonderful afternoon at your beautiful home; we hope to see you again someday soon.

Sasha {Nantucket Pet Photography}

Sasha is a very special friend.

She is our next door neighbors’ dog; all Border Collie, all the time.

When I get up in the morning, she is on the doorstep, awaiting play with Zach and Sophie.  Frequently I find her in the same place in the evening and must encourage her to go home and get some rest. “We are all OK, Sasha. Your work is done for the day.

It is very sweet that she greets us upon returning home every day…ever guardful, ever hopeful that there will be a quick game of tennis ball chasing.

We are very lucky to be in the company of great neighbors and friends, new and old.

May these first days of the holiday season remind us all of our very special friends in this world.

Sasha, so glad we moved next door to you; you are a sweetie.

Gorgeousness

Last Sunday, I visited the Boston area to meet up with a wonderful family for a Christmas shoot.

Melea is 3 1/2 and as sweet and fun as her photo would suggest.

Kaitlyn is 6 and and is so enthusiastic about everything! It was a true pleasure to meet them and their two dogs, Midnite and Chance.

The girls love dancing and playing dress up and they wore the most beautiful silver skirts and sparkly shoes….

Happy Holidays and thank you girls for such a wonderful time!jaffeblogshoesvintageresizeweb

Christmas presents {Nantucket children’s photography}

I have been most lucky as of late to be in the company of gorgeous, fun, VERY photogenic children.

DJ and Tahlia met me downtown the other day, and completely rocked our quick Christmas card session.

They are very special children for many reasons, including the fact that they were our very first children clients last year!

Thank you guys for such a great session! magicboardfrancisweb

Image box

Some of you have asked about my newest (and most exciting!) product, the image box.

Here is a sampling of more photos of this precious box; this one is sized to hold matted 5×7 inch prints. It is also available in a yummy 8X10 size.

18 prints are matted and bordered as shown; the detail and quality of these are exceptional.

I personally design each box to suit each client’s wishes and love that it can be fashioned to be classically elegant or loaded with detail. In this case, we chose to feature Emma’s name  within a ribbon on the back of each print…adorable.

I am very pleased with imageboxblog

and proud to offer this product.

(Appropriately sized easel included with each image box order :) )

Holiday Cards {Nantucket Holiday Photography}

tornovishcardA year older, a year wiser, a year discovering the talents of some fellow photographers and designers.

I love my card offerings this year and I have a few which certainly poke fun at the holidays.

After all, if you can’t have fun at holiday time…well, you know the rest..
